Beach cleaning operation in Vias… commit to the environment with the Farret campsite!

On September 15th, the World CleanUp Day will take place, a global ecological movement aimed at uniting more than 150 countries for one purpose: cleaning up the planet in one day.

This global action is a response to a stark reality: we are drowning in waste, and our ecological debt is skyrocketing. Each year, the world's population generates 4 billion tons of waste, equivalent to 400,000 Eiffel Towers. The project is ambitious and perhaps impossible, but, as you may have gathered, the primary objective is to raise global awareness about a situation that continues to deteriorate. Wild waste is overwhelming us and has become a global issue that demands global awareness: what kind of world do we want to leave for our children?

Plastic pollution in a few numbers:

The statistics of plastic pollution are an alarm that must be taken seriously. Here are some key facts:

  • In 2010, 10 million tons of plastics were discarded in nature and ended up in the sea.

  • The 7th continent (a conglomerate of waste in the Pacific Ocean) is now 7 times larger than France.

  • 8 million tons of plastics are thrown into the seas and oceans each year.

  • 1.5 million animals fall victim to plastic waste every year.

  • 1 cigarette butt pollutes 500 liters of water.

  • By 2050, there will be more plastic waste in the sea than fish.

  • In France, 1.5 billion straws and 300 disposable cups per minute are discarded in nature every year.

Plastic Pollution: From the Sea to Our Plates

These shocking numbers are just the tip of the iceberg. Simply follow the journey of a plastic bag discarded in nature to understand the environmental and health stakes. It will be carried by the wind or watercourses to the sea. During its marine journey, it will break down into accumulations of pollutants (PCBs, pesticides, etc.) that will then be ingested by fish. In the end, these plastics and pollutants end up directly in our food. We must act quickly!

I'm on vacation in Hérault and want to participate in the World CleanUp Day, how can I do it?

As a local company, we believe it's important to engage with nature through the participation of our teams, our customers, and the residents of Languedoc-Roussillon. Our seaside campsite is fortunate to be located directly on a beach with fine golden sands and the blue waters of the Mediterranean. This unique environment is home to exceptional fauna and flora, including dolphins, turtles, rays, sea bream, sea bass, sargo, red mullet, octopus, cuttlefish, marine birds, seashells, and much more.

This exceptional environment must be preserved, and everyone's behavior should be part of a sustainable and civic approach.

That's why, on Saturday, September 15, 2018, with the logistical support of the town of Vias, we are organizing a beach cleanup event.

Schedule for the day:

Everyone who wishes to get involved is welcome. We invite you to participate in a beach cleanup at the campsite's beach and Rosses Alley from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the assistance of municipal agents from the Vias Town Hall. We'll conclude our action with a friendly gathering at the Pirates Bar in the Club Farret.

We'll meet at 9:00 AM in front of the reception (please wear suitable clothing and shoes).

Waste doesn't take vacations: Ecotourism

It's time to put an end to behaviors that are harmful to our environment and to consider the impact of pollution generated by mass tourism.

What is ecotourism?

Ecotourism is tourism that respects the environment. Discovering local culture, nature, and biodiversity are the keywords of these vacations that are respectful of the planet.

The Club Farret is committed every day

  • Engaging in an ecological and sustainable approach is an ongoing battle. At the campsite, we have chosen to change our habits to protect our environment:

  • Our teams use alternative modes of transportation and move around exclusively in electric cars or bicycles.

We minimize paper usage. We have chosen to limit printing and use recycled paper. We send our correspondence via email and provide all our communication materials for download.

I'm on vacation at the campsite, how can I adopt an eco-friendly behavior?

During your camping stay, don't forget your good habits:

  • Sort your waste in one of our two waste collection points (at the main entrance of the Farret campsite or the Beach Farret district).

  • When leaving your vacation rental, turn off lights, television, air conditioning, and limit your energy consumption.

  • Respect the cleanliness of the campsite. Don't litter in nature; there are garbage bins available throughout the site. Take your dogs to dedicated areas for them to relieve themselves.

  • Holidays are the time to create unforgettable memories with your family, so don't spoil them with waste. So, are you convinced? Join us this weekend and let's clean our beaches!"
